Could have been out in the desert southwest considering the weather pattern of the past week - high temps with no humidity. Took advantage by four straight days of Yough River trout fishing. Got 'em figured out, too. Stuck to the shadowed rocky, foamy shorelines with abrupt, deep drop-offs.
Casting an assortment of wet flys and streamers. Doesn't appear to be a shortage of wild fish as some would have you to believe. Hooked eighteen average-size brook trout throughout, 7-6-3-2 over the four days. Probably three hours of effort per day between 10am - 2pm. Not bad for mid-afternoon when the fish usually 'aren't bitin' (our opinion).
Added a fifth day of SUP With MG Sarah and ZMan - a brief rain shower blowin' in
Ran into a few railroad workers. One guy said that a few days previous he had been moving a pile of rocks by hand. Grabbed a shovel as a pry to dislodge a larger, heavy boulder laying toward the bottom of the pile. He had just prior been trying to work it loose by hand-snatching along the edges. Flips the rock up with the shovel and there lies a "big 'ole rattler!" Never made a peep.
Gotta' be wary along those south-facing river banks. One afternoon a few years back we encountered two snake hunters who said that they unearthed thirty-two copperheads in a two mile stretch of river.
Dead copperhead, apparently run over, along the railroad bed.
