... 'Penny Rock Boulders'... L-R: 'Iron Man', 'The Ass' and 'Penny Rock'...
... a rainy day yesterday, so took some brush snips and a short bike ride ... not a ton of stuff there - two twelve foot boulders and diving board 'Penny Rock' which has a deep water route or two... great amenities - lots of nature, great swimming and jumping/diving deep hole with good trout fishing ta' boot (landed a very nice 18" rainbow among many catches over time) - and right along the 'Yough River Trail (YRT)'...
... 'The Ass' (so named for a bit of archaic graffiti) - north face - some decent stuff on some sloping pockets and smears - not bad... laying back that angling arete on 'Iron Man' (previous photo) is pretty fun...
... 'The Ass' north face - basically got everything opened to get some sun in - need a bit of brushing (once dry) - the old crack route now supports a dug-in poison ivy root system (to be removed) - there's a flooded high water scour hole that need filled in (no big deal)... all dependent upon how motivated we get - feel free to have at it...
... from the archives - photo print annotation says July, 1984 - old fashioned bouldering "country boy-style" - 'Rust Never Sleeps' on 'Iron Man' (so named for the high iron content of the sandstone rock - see first photo)... sans chalk, not an ounce of cheap earth-killing polyester plastic in those cut-off Wranglers, while edging in those low top 'Chuck Taylors' definitely adds a bit of difficulty (although every boulder sports a grade V∞ in our opinion), and what the f*k is a crash pad!?...
... disclaimer: good hot weather hangout - not a bad spot, but not for everybody with consideration to everybody we know... don't drown in the river...
